Sam’s musical journey has been long, diverse and exciting. The son of renowned composer Pam Wedgwood and Dennis Wedgwood, who worked as a trumpeter at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, for many years, it was always likely that he and his brother Olly Wedgwood, would follow in his parents' footsteps.
After winning a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London, Sam subsequently spent the following decade as a pop writer for Sony. During that time he became the multi-instrumentalist for the hugely successful British jazz pianist, Jamie Cullum, who has sold over ten million albums worldwide. Sam performed guitar, keys, percussion, trumpet and vocals in this role, and he toured extensively with Jamie’s band.
A love of music and the creative process eventually drew Sam to composition, and for the past two years he has been writing classical orchestral music for television, film and commercial use. His compositions are frequently recorded by a live session orchestra at Abbey Road Studios in London, and his original compositions have featured regularly on the BBC, ITV, and the popular afternoon show, Loose Women.
Sam also thoroughly enjoys writing educational music; he is convinced that being able to play a musical instrument has enormous value for people of all ages, and it is particularly beneficial for children.
Sam now lives in Queensland, Australia, with his wife and two daughters. He enjoys his annual trips home to the UK, where he promotes his music and oversees recordings at Abbey Road Studios, but he regards the beautiful Sunshine Coast as the optimum environment in which to be creative and inspired.
