EVC Music launched 22 Nocturnes for Chopin by Women Composers at Steinway Hall in London on 18 September 2023.
“The anthology is a result of the #CallToWomenComposers worldwide search for talented but not-yet-published women composers. The applications for new piano works inspired by Chopin’s Nocturnes were open to women composers aged 14+. EVC received over eighty piano scores in a variety of styles ranging from Experimental to Romantic.
The selection committee were presented with ‘nameless’ scores, and sixteen were chosen in addition to six commissions by established composers. Each composer in this collection speaks in her own authentic voice. Her music stirs emotions and reveals her cultural influences. Almost every Chopin piano work has a dedication to a woman, and this anthology of piano pieces written by women composers will complete the circle.”
